How To Write Your Own Comic Book

Lack artistic skills, but love comic books? Well, you can write your own comic book! However, don't think it's easy to write your own comic book. It takes time, dedication, and creativity.

Instructions

  1. Think of a storyline, characters, settings, and other details that need to be included in the story. Who's going to be your main audience? What genre is it?

  2. Write out an outline. You should have a beginning, middle, and end. Also, write out the description of the characters and setting, or you can just write out the personality of the characters and let the artist figure out the character and setting designs for your comic book.

  3. Consider how much control you want the artist to have, when you write your own comic book. You can give your artist as little control as possible (you will specify the number of panels, how the panels are organized, how the characters look, and the settings) or you can give your artist as much control as they can get (they will think up the designs for characters, panels, and settings) or somewhere in between. You have to pick one and stick to it, if you want to write a comic book.

  4. Write your own comic book! If your giving the artist little control, first specify the layout of the page (number of panels and how the panels are organized). Then start with the first panel by writing out the setting and the dialouge for the characters. Don't focus too much on how the characters and the setting look. Just give enough details so the artist can picture it. This is where you can break the rule "show, don't tell". It's the artist's job to show, while its your job to tell. For instance, instead of saying: "Johnnie felt his eyes burning with tears. His eyes were bloodshot red, his nose dripping, and his whole body was rocking back and forth." you can say - "Johnnie is crying a lot". Your main job is to tell the artist what's going on in the panels and provide the dialouge.

  5. Repeat this process, until you're finished writing your comic book!
